Runic Line

This series of articles explores the world of runic symbols and their meanings.

The Runes are the 24 symbols comprised in the Celtic ‘Futhark’ alphabet commonly used in ancient times to compose inscriptions written in the ancient Nordic and Germanic languages.

These archetypal signs and symbols may be seen as linked to the collective unconscious.

Each rune refers to a particular season or moments in our life: sowing seeds, harvesting, war, family life, joy, love, friendship, fertility, death …

The symbols are also associated with elements and the dynamics of the natural world: water, sun, ice, yew trees, the cyclical pattern of the seasons …

Wearing these symbols, we may delve inside ourselves and also convey a sense of the symbolic associations contained within the sign-bearing objects.
